Wild for the Night

Skrillex has been the motivating force on my workout playlist since 2011. I love the fast paced beats, the lack of words, and the fact that it sounds like two transformers attacking each other. Lately, I have been including some hip-hop/rap/trap music into my workout playlists in addition to my EDM selections. I discovered Wild for the Night just a couple of weeks ago and it has become one of my go to songs for the gym.

Wild for the Night takes the vocals of A$AP Rocky and combines them with the beats of Skrillex. Its like a Dub-Trap fusion song. It really is good and catchy and great for any workout.

Thinking Out Loud

Who has not heard this song? Once again, I was at work and one of my lovely arts and crafts children played this song. I fell in love with it instantly. Then, I watched the music video. Not only was the song beautifully written but the choreography in the music video made it that much more amazing. I can honestly say that I have been listening to  this song every day and I feel that I am going to play the song until I make myself hate it but that is okay for now. I’m just going to keep on imagining that this song is about me and that I am dancing in that video.

Burn

I like Ellie Goulding. I think she has a cute voice. Do I think that she’s a powerhouse? No. Do I think her music is good to listen to? yes. The first time I even heard of Goulding was when I heard her cover of The Weeknd’s High for This, which I actually quite enjoyed. Then I found out that she was dating Skrillex for a bit there and I fell in love with her because….well I kind of Love Skrillex.

Burn is actually a really cute and inspiring song as it talks about self expression and why one should be who we are. Sometimes we are more successful at being ourselves and letting our fire burn than we are at being something else. We all have a fire, we just have to find it within. I love this song because it talks about individually and collectively finding our “Spark”. It’s kind of like Katy Perry’s Firework…the message I mean. Also, its just a great song to dance to. I just love it. Its a replay ting.

P.S. This was my choice song for this year’s Word on the Street festival in Toronto. Every year at this annual festival, I quote one song that has relevance to the way my day went. This was my song this year; it was obviously a good day. I got TTC Buttons.

High For This

This is one of those signature songs that launched the artist into the ranks of stardom and that one song that annoys you so much but that you will almost always sing whenever you hear it just because almost everyone and every radio station knows it. High For This by The Weeknd is one of those classic R&B songs about the wondrous topic of sex and ones attractiveness (presumably female in his case). Although I love the original song, I also loved the cover by Ellie Goulding. You know, the girl who dated Skrillex? So, today, I have decided to post both versions of the song for you to decide which one that you like better. Listen, enjoy, and “trust me boy/girl, you wanna be…high for this”.

Promises

One of my favourite genres of music is dubstep. There are barely any words, just the sounds of transformers discussing future attack plans for world domination. That’s what it sounds like. Once in a while you’ll find a good dubstep song with actual singing in it and you might just fall in love with it. That’s what happened with me. Here is a collaboration between Nero and Skrillex. Enjoy!

Scatta

This is actually my favourite song…or one of. This song, is the song that inspires me to do things faster, and better. When I’m at the gym or on a run and I put this song on, I feel like a beast. Every time I listen to this song I feel beastly. Plus, I am in love with dubstep. That is mainly what I listen to these days. When that drop arrives, oh! I cannot even explain how impeccable a good bass drop is. Skrillex achieves that in this song. SCATTA BY SKRILLEX everyone is an extremely wonderful song.
