I was watching my Instagram stories as usual and I saw a drunk girl in the back of an uber belting out the words to this song. I didn’t know what the song was so I sent the Insta story to one of my country music loving friends. She was obviously able to identify the song quickly for me so I thought I should share it here since I have been listening to it every time I walk my dog lately.
Drunk Me is a song by Country Singer Mitchell Tenpenny. The song is about a man with a drinking problem who was super problematic due to his drinking problem, losing the love of his life and then choosing to stop drinking after she is gone. Isn’t this a time old tale – you don’t know what you got till its gone? The song is great but deeply problematic in many ways. It basically sympathizes with a drunk man who probably abusing his partner when intoxicated. While it is a hit song, there is a lot to unpack while listening to it. Otherwise, you can aimlessly enjoy this song or you can spend your time analyzing it for fun.
One of my good friends tagged me in a tiktok video by Jenna Dewan and not only did I fall in love with her choreography but I also watched the video so many times that I started to like the song!
Her dancing is amazing!
After the 10th time of watching this video, I went to find this song. I knew that it was by Justin Bieber the minute I heard it because his voice is so distinct, but I was surprised that I hadn’t heard it before this! Anyways, it is a cool and mellow hip hop song and I actually find it quite enjoyable to listen to. Quavo from the Migos has a feature on the song which is actually a great added touch!
I have always enjoyed Sam Hunt’s music. It is mainly country, but there are often pop or hip hop elements woven into the music.
Hunt released his second full length album, Southside, in April 2020 and the first song on the album has completely made my heart soft and warm.
2016 is the first song on the Southside album and the most beautiful song on there as well. Not only is it lyrically beautiful, but it really showcases Hunt’s vocal capability. It may make you cry. It may make you sentimental. Either way, it is one of those songs that will make you feel something!
This has been my go to power walking song for the past two months. I first heard it on an episode of Netflix’s Trinkets and I thought it was a hype song. Now, I just love it. I haven’t listened to any other songs by Princess Nokia to date but maybe I will when I finally get sick and tired of this song.
Also, the song is named after a video game character from Mortal Kombat if that made it any cooler or enticed you to listen. Add this to your workout playlist if you dare!
This song has been on repeat on my my playlist for the past 2 weeks. I don’t know why I just found out about this song but it is amazing. I love the fact that it is an R&B song with an electronic music element weaved throughout. I haven’t listened to much from artist Tyler, The Creator, but I for sure will look more into his catalog after this one.
I love this song! Its a cute little ode to a love that’s lost, but in the early stage of being lost. This song is basically about being on a break or a new break up and then realizing that you truly love and want to be with that person but it also feels like understanding that its okay to love someone and know that its time to move on. I just also think that this is a great song and well written. While Shawn Mendes did record this song, we all know that Teddy Gieger (his trusty ghost writer) penned this song, and she wrote it around a time when she broke up with her Fiance.
Overall, the lyrics are simple and repetitive but this is a quality top 40 pop song. Happy Listening!
I heard this song come onto my shuffle playlist, while on a bus ride back from New York City, where I was sobbing over the memories of my ex-boyfriend.
I had downloaded some random Starbucks playlist before I left and I didn’t expect to find this gem of a song. I love Ray LaMontagne and I instantly fell in love with this song. His voice is just gorgeous. I think he is talking about a girl that he loves but that may not also be the best for him. All I know is that this song made me stop crying on that bus ride and for that I will forever be grateful.
I haven’t posted about a song for a while, so here goes.
Body is a song by Canadian EDM duo, Loud Luxury. This song features vocalist Brando, who apparently originally wrote the song to be a rap. Loud Luxury played with his voice and lyrics a bit to give us the Top 40 Masterpiece, Body.
I am obsessed with this song and it just makes me want to get up and dance and have so much fun. I hope that you play this and jam to it at your next pre party.
I love Migos. I think that they are my favourite rap group at this time. From their new album, Culture II, I have been obsessively listening to Gang Gang. Its a great song to add to your workout playlist if you like trap music that kind of has an R&B feel to it.
Last night as I was watching the Grammy Awards, I saw Chris Stapleton’s performance and instantly my favourite song by him started to play in my brain.
Unlike most people, after my heartbreak, I found it truly challenging to be able to listen to break up songs (unless they were by John Mayer). When I heard Tennessee Whiskey for the first time I didn’t become sad about my heart break, but I became hopeful about love for the future. Every work that Stapleton articulated didn’t represent my former love of heartbreak but it allowed me to envision a different kind of love that I could experience. That’s the beauty of music; you can always find a song to identify with in every case and for every feeling and that is the greatest gift that we have in song.
