This is one of my favourite songs at the moment. Valerie is a song performed by the late musician Amy Winehouse. It’s not a new song but I just discovered this version of the song, having only heard her live versions prior to this. The BBC Live Lounge 1 version is also very well done. Mark Ronson (whom is currently famously known for his song Uptown Funk with Bruno Mars), puts his own spin on this beautiful song to make it more of a pop, dance, jazzy tune. This song is a beautiful story about a friendship or love that is lost and kind of a call out to find out where this person (aka Valerie) has gone to. The lyrics also hint towards pondering of things past as Winehouse sings about the potential whereabouts of this person today. While it is a fun song, it does have some sad undertones to it as well. I have posted the studio version and a live version below! I like the live version a lot because it displays the talents of Winehouse and how her vocals can paint a picture whether recorded or in live performance. That’s what always been unique about Amy: her ability to paint a picture with her words. That’s evident in this piece as well.
