Biking

I was watching HBO’s show, Insecure, which features the channels first all black cast. The show is like the black millennials Sex and the City, which has made it interesting and provided perspective. On the Last episode of season two, Frank Ocean’s single, Biking, was played as the final events played out. It was the perfect song for the end of the season and it is also one of the best Frank Ocean songs I have heard in a long time (mind the fact that I did not listen to Blonde, his latest release). I have attached the track. Give it a listen and check out HBO Insecure while you’re at it.

Van Morrison Playlist

To be honest, I have been going through a lot lately and I don’t exactly know how I feel about some things. I was watching my favourite show, This Is Us, and this song came on and it was as if I found clarity and peace within myself, even if it was only for one minute. When I later googled it, it was called Into the Mystic by Van Morrison. I listened and listened to this song over and over again on repeat and I felt calmer each time I did and I felt at peace each time I did. Time stopped for a moment and everything was finally okay. Then I went searching for more of his music and actually stumbled upon a few that I was quite familiar with. I made this playlist of my top 6 Van Morrison songs to help me calm down when I am stressed and anxious. You can access them via Spotify below. Happy listening!

September Song

I originally stumbled upon this song on an acoustic listening Spotify playlist. I then went to research more about the artist, JP Cooper, and I found the more mainstream pop version of the song. This is probably one of the cutest songs I have ever heard, however it is not too lyrically complex which allows for a more easy listening experience. I have been listening to this song on repeat as it is just great period and the artists voice amplify the song. This is one of those songs that you will find yourself listening too repeatedly on a road trip.

Ain’t No Love In The Heart of the City

I have a thing for soul songs. Artists like Luther Vandross, Marvin Gaye, Brook Benton and Otis Redding are a few of the artists I enjoy listening to when I’m in the mood to relax. I was watching my new summer favourite show, HBO’s Girls, and I heard this song at the end of one of the Season 5 episodes.

Ain’t No Love in the Heart of The City is a song by Bobby ‘Blue’ Bland and it appears to be is most well known song. I’m not sure what city this song is exactly referencing too but this song is mainly about a man mourning his love that has moved away from him, or out of the city. His is describing what his day to day life has been lacking without his love near and it has such a personal tone to it that you cant really help but to fall in love with the lyrics.

In relation to the show GIRLS, this song is used at the end of a scene where Hannah, one of the main characters, hitchhikes a ride from a stranger back into New York when she becomes stranded in the country. During this ride, the driver and Hannah begin to discuss their love lives and then express the way that they see New York. Hannah sees New York as being the perfect place for her creativity while the driver sees New York as a new start to his life. This song was the perfect fit to the end of this episode which is about two people losing/leaving the ones that they loved due to an unhealthy relationship. I quite enjoyed this episode and song and I hope that you enjoy it too.

Like a Wrecking Ball

I cannot stop listening to this song…and laughing while I listen to it. Like A Wrecking Ball is a song performed by country musician Eric Church. This song is about a man who has been on the road for a music tour and has not seen his wife in a while and cannot wait to get home to do the nasty with her. The lyrics provide the most entertaining description of a man in sexual frustration and a man that is exceptionally committed to his wife. Its a cute song but also has very blunt lyrics which make it an even more entertaining listen.

Simple Things

I was watching an episode of my new guilty pleasure show Girls (HBO) and this song came on at the end of one of the episodes and I was like “OMG THIS IS TOTALLY MIGUEL”. I had a thought that it was Miguel (the R&B singer) but I had to verify with Siri to be sure and she let me know that it was this song off of his newest album Wildheart.

I have loved Miguel ever since hearing his beautiful and sexual song Adorn and this song is no different to me; I love it just as much. Simple Things is another sexy song that basically makes you want to touch and adore your lover because you just think that they are perfect in every way (well, you think they are perfect for the 4 minute duration of this song). I currently have this song on replay; its chill and so good for an afternoon coffee on the subway train heading southbound.
