Love Me

“I’m on that good kush and alcohol.” How about a little rap review  everybody. Oooo, Have I done one of these yet? I’m not too sure…anyways. Love Me is a song by Lil Wayne (Weezy) with featuring artists Future and Drake (Drizzy). It is produced by Mike Will Made It (That guy that did Miley Cyrus’ album #bangerz). I think that this is one of the best hip hop songs that I have heard in a while. Future’s half sing/rap voice at the beginning of the song is so perfectly complimentary to the song that I fell in love with the song just from hearing the first 30 seconds. Drake is just amazing in almost every track he is featured in. Even though Drake says virtually nothing, his presence on this track just makes it even better. Lil Wayne’s main rap just hit it on the nail. His flow and lyrics were just amazing (or as amazing as rap lyrics can be these days).  Mike Will Made It did a great job with the beat. I love this song and I am constantly playing it over and over again. Even though I dont really listen to rap (as you guys might have guessed), I still like to indulge once in a while. Next to Bangerz, this is definitely one of my favourite musical things right now.

BANGERZ (The Album)

Yes, I did it. I caved and bought Bangerz. And let me tell you about how much I love it. Not only did this album get me through the grueling task of studying for exams, but it also gave a great new soundtrack to work out to. Yes I did expect the album to have more songs that were…bangerz, but I must commend Mike-Will-Made-It’s efforts. The album was great and worked well with accommodating her voice. The people that Miley chose to work with really did help to make the album good. Although the album was great for my needed pop music fix it, it wasn’t the best pop album I have ever hear. In fact, I kind of feel that it didn’t meet up to the hype. Either way, I like it, and you probably like it too.

23

“J’s on my feet, so get like me”. Such profound lyrics. Now, I just want to take this moment to say that Miley Cyrus is a genius. Change yourself in the most controversial way in order to create profit….and its working. 23 is a Mike WiLL Made It song which features Miley Cyrus, Wiz Kalifha, and Juicy J. This is actually a good dancing/clubbing song; I really like it. There’t not much to say really. Its a good song, I like it. Work out to it or walk to it. It has a good beat. Its the first time Miley raps on a track. It is unique and its just as good as any other rap song out there. Enjoy!

Same Love

I am absolutely in love with Mackelmore and Ryan Lewis right now. Even more so, I am in love with this song. On my daily TTC commutes to school this week, I have found myself listening to this song on repeat. Not only is the beat amazing (props to Lewis), but the lyrics of this song are even more profound. This song is about gay right and equality. Although Mackelmore is American, I think that this song was written to show the issues that homosexuals face in all parts of the world. This song perfectly paints a picture of the struggle and discrimination that is faced in this group of individuals. I love this song even more because it has made an issue that many refuse or dislike to talk about a mainstream discussion as one may listen to this song and reflect. Not only are Mackelmore’s lyrics just amazing, but the chorus, sung by Mary Lambert is even more beautiful; it completes the song. Lambert is a lesbian, and her line “she keeps me warm” is descriptive of how her love with her partner is just as valuable as a heterosexual love.  This song is just the perfect picture to be painted in this society today. We need to be open to the issues of social change and equality. I love this song, and it truly is one of the most memorable songs I have ever listened to. Great one Mackelmore, Great one.

The Way

Although I do not hold a great affinity towards Ariana Grande or Mac Miller, I must say that this is a seemingly flawless musical combination. Grande has a stellar voice that can be compared to that of Mariah Carey. Lets be completely honest here; most people who indulge in pop music do like Mariah Carey. MacMiller’s rap did compliment the feel of the song. You can tell from both the video and the song that these two do have a good chemistry. To conclude, I truly did like this song. It is a catchy tune that I find myself listening to during my morning walks to the bus stop.

Started From The Bottom

Drake, I was wondering if you could tell me exactly where and what the bottom is to you? Because all the facts show that your bottom wasn’t that low at all. In fact, your bottom was so great, that this song is seemingly irrelevant in this case. Shoppers Drug Mart isn’t that bad, except for the fact that you were on Degrassi. And my mom and I fight all the time, that doesn’t mean that I am at the bottom, nor did I start from the bottom, so this part is also irrelevant. You grew up in Forest Hill, which is a much better neighbour hood than I grew up in. As a fellow Toronto Resident, I can vouch for this. Please Drake, define the bottom for me. Cause your bottom just seemed great!

Moving on, this is actually a very catchy song that has not left my head since I’ve heard it (despite my rant). I think his rapping is actually good in this song. I like Drake, I have both of his albums, and I have been pleasantly impressed. I am impressed with this song, I don’t hate it, but I do not think that the lyrics are relevant.

The whole Shoppers Drug Mart Scene with the 2 guys and the girl was hilarious though. I loved it!

Swimming Pools (Drank)

This post is officially the first post dedicated to a hip-hop/rap song. I don’t usually listen to this genre of music, but I really should broaden my horizons if I am going to be producing a blog about music commentary. Kendrick Lamar’s song Swimming Pools (Drank) has a killer beat which will captivate the ears immediately, but what ultimately hooks you is the intro lyrics, which a repetitive and catchy. The rest of the song however, isn’t as strong as this one part, but it does ok. This song is ultimately about getting extremely drunk to the point of not being coherent. This song could also be viewed as a quail to alcoholism  It seems like a confession of an alcoholic. ” Pull up, head shot, sit down, stand up, pass out, wake up, faded, faded” The hole time uttering “drank” in between each phrase. All in all, I really do like this song and I hope that you like it too. This might even encourage me to listen to more hip-hop/rap or at least some more Kendrick Lamar.
